Catch-up time!

Hey everybody! Just wanted to let you all know of a couple things that have happened and a few thigns yet to come:

First off, the 2009 UW Fashion Show happened last night and it was a blast! Everyone involved had a great time, from the models, to the stylists, to the audience- it was a rockin' good time all-round. The fashion show in and of itself is a program that celebrates people for who they are, regardless of size, looks, etc. Clothing companies, local designers, and even student designers contribute to the event. I, myself, modeled for two companies and even took to bringing to the audience in on the show by running out into the crowd and snapping a shot of someone randomly. Great fun! Like I said, great event, great mission statement-good things all around.

Next, Celebrating Black History was a month full of programming brought to UW by the Black Student Commission. The events varied from film/panel discussions, guest speakers, and even a dance! From all I've gathered, the overall event was a success with multiple parts gaining a lot of attention. Congratulations BSC for rocking the month of February!

Coming up:
The RHSA (Residence Hall Student Association) has a month long of programming coming up also. It's is "Reshaping History: Celebrating Women's Vision & Leadership". You can find more information at http://depts.washington.edu/rhsa/index.php or contact the RHSA Director of Programming, Kyle Fuller, also located on the website under RHSA Executive Board. Reshaping History is aimed at providing knowledge and acknowledgment/celebration of women. Come check out the multiple events during the month of March and celebrate the women of the world!

The ASUW Annual Drag show is...trying to get planned. There has been some kinks and snags here and there, but with the hard work of the newest addition to the ASUW employee family, Maggie Capwell- interim Director of the GBLTC (Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian, Transgender Commission), things have been moving and with a strong passion. More news to come soon!

Last little bit for this long post (sorry!), but look for huge campaign for the Husky Pride fund come next quarter. I'm unleashing a fury of marketing to get the word out about the Husky Pride Fund. More information for that can be found here at www.HuskyTee.com, or you can ask me! Yah!

Ok everyone! I'll try to post more frequently, so get ready for that! Have a great weekend everybody!

End 'o' the week for Programming

Hey everybody! Quick updates:

I've been working pretty extensively on the Husky Pride Fund, which in short (if I already hadn't mentioned yet) is an emergency scholarship fund for those in dire financial need. The coolest aspect of the program is it's not built by raising fees or the like-but by you! If you go to the UW Book Store and purchase this year's Husky Tee (pics attached), $5 goes directly into the Pride Fund. OR you can dump your lose pocket change into one of the change bins around campus, found at many of the cafe stands/food establishments.
...Alright! So I had to throw in a plug, but I found it necessary to give you an idea of what I'm working on. Right now, I'm designing a revamped marketing plan to give it the boost it's looking for, so watch out for that!

I'm also working on the Drag Show, so be ready to look for some Audition posters soon! I'm even going to attempt to do something! This key to this audition: rock out a talent of yours...in drag! Yeah! That's it! It could be a gender-bending skit, a song, or even a magic trick- just be in drag! So talk to me if you have any questions!

Swing Kids is hosting their annual Winter dance this Friday (today!) 2.6.09; they have free dance lessons at 7pm, and then the dance is from 8-11pm. It's free to UW students, and $5 to community folk. Not bad!

GO check things out and I'll be sure to update you with more next week!

Mike
